An article titled "Genealogy in Depression I have been in contact with the states that have these deposit box contents, and I have been trying to acquire them under the guise of `historical significance to the Skinner Family Association.' However, most of the states are sticklers on the legality of passing along items of possible importance to anyone not related to the original owners. But a problem exists. Usually only the initials of the person were given in the Federal Register, which makes proving ownership difficult. (Sande's packet for her claim was over 20 pages long, and, she thought it was her great grand father Clarence E. that she was claiming for. When she got the stuff, it belonged to a Cyrus E., no relation at all? So, even if you're close, apply!) Being a distant cousin does not prevent you from claiming these contents. Just so long as you can prove a relationship, you can file. If no one else files, the stuff is yours. Luckily, I have just received a response from Idaho with the wife's name listed. If anyone has any relative that was named Hyrum Skinner married to an Elizabeth H. P. who were in Montpelier, Bear Lake County, Idaho around 1907 please write me for the forms (now down to 2 pages). In the event that you didn't see the original article, or were unaware of the listing, here they are. Once again, if you think you may be related to any of these Skinners, the states are more than happy to get rid of the stuff. There is no listing of contents on any of them. I have the paperwork for most of them, so get in touch with me and I'll get the papers off to you.
Just remember, this stuff is "remaining contents of safe deposit boxes that were located in national banks which became insolvent during the late 1920's and 1930's. So you may want to keep those dates in mind when thinking about your relatives. I'm hoping that if no one claims this property we, as the Skinner Family Association, will be able to lay claim. So far, though, when asking about being able to claim as the Skinner Family Association, I keep being told only `relatives' may claim. If any of you did file and receive any of the safe deposit box contents, please let me know and I'll discontinue my claim. |
