AGRI

Frank Skinner, OK mentioned that he had obtained the book 'The Skinner Family' from the American Genealogical Research Institute of Washington D.C. I wrote them and asked about their publication, as well as their other items that Frank had mentioned in his letter, a family crest (suitable for framing) and playing cards with the Skinner crest on the back. I wrote AGRS and asked for information, including prices and whether there would be reduced prices for multiple orders.

price p&h
Skinner Family History Book $9.95 $1.50
Printed Coat of Arms $9.95 $1.50
Playing Cards $2.95 $ .60

AGRI offers a 10% discount on orders of six or more items and 20% on orders of eight or more items. If anyone is interested it getting any of these items let me know and I'll get an order together.

I've ordered the book to add to my Skinner collection, and I'll let you know what it's like when I receive it.

23 August...

I have just received the Skinner Family History from AGRI. It's a 'cute' book on the 'Skinner Family.' Most of the information in the book is general. There are a few pages actually dedicated to the Skinner name (23 out of the 138 page book). These pages are limited to the history of the Skinner name, a Skinner coat of arms, descriptions of 3 of the 10 coats of arms listed in Burke's General Armory, 3 pages of immigrant Skinners from the 46 given references dealing with colonial immigrants, one page of Skinner marriage records, the Skinners listed in the 1790 census, 6 pages of Skinners who served in the Revolution, and 10 short biographies of prominent Skinners.

It's interesting. I like it for all of the references given. It makes for a nice list of books to hit when doing another line. I won't recommend it as I feel my needs are different from yours, so you'll have to take the chance if you're interested. I will probably have most of the information in the Update over the next issues as it applies to what we're working on. The address is above if you want to order on your own, or for a group sales discount, send the order to me. (Send the full price and I'll refund if we get enough orders for a discount.)

(The coat of arms they use on the plaque and cards is: Sable, a chevron or between three griffins' heads erased argent, on their breasts a mullet for difference.)
