!Š..Skinner, Todd (09/2001) Ezra Seth Skinner [#509] while a young man attended school in Nebraska about 1913. His teacher was Zelma Painter, daughter of Rosanna Skinner who was the daughter of William Andrew Skinner and his second wife Margret Beam. When he was a boy he would skate on the ice in his bare feet. He said that when the bottom of the sole got frosted over it got really slick. 1855 moved to Battle Creek Michigan and worked as a raftsman on the lakes.William would tell his son John Henry about running the rafts over the rapids between the lakes and how the rafts would sink until he stood waist high in the water. The rafts had big long oars. There were two men to an oar, that was the power for their raft.That is where he met Joe miller who eventualy married his sister Sarah. in 1862 -1863 moved to Hennepin Illinois, lived there during the early part of the Civil War. William was working as a woodyard watchman. The wood yard supplied wood for the railroadengines. He rembers seeing rows and rows of wood hundreds of feet long and of seeing wild bobcats in the morning sunning themselves. William remembers seeing freight trains loaded with whooping and yelling soldiers going by. When his wife Priscilla died and he moved to Hamburg Iowa, He crossed the river to Nebraska City, Nebraska. In 1885 he moved to Keya Paha Co., where he Homesteaded and married Margaret Beam in 1868. Had 7 children by his first wife Priscilla Hensley and five by his second Margaret Beam. He is buried in Springview, Nebraska. ref; Birth from his bible Marriage found in his bible Marriages-Freemont County, Iowa 1857-1869 Book 3 Obituary Notice- William and Margaret Certificate of Citizenship-State of Nebraska, County of Keya Paha, dated October 1 1891 Homestead Certificate #1763 Application #2282 dated April 20 1892- land office of Valintine, Nebraska signed by President Benjamin Harrison. On Williams tombstone is written "This Is The Way To GOD" above that is a hand with a finger pointing up. In a letter from Benjamin Franklin Skinner to his neice Emily he said, "Your grandpa died with his faith strong in Jesus. He said that he was going home to Jesus. Emily how is it with you? Are you living so that you will meet your mother. There is no doubt that she was a Christian. At the last when she couldn't speak she pointed up. B.F.S.
