Benjamin Skinner suffered confiscation of his property and was imprisoned by the rebels( the Americans ) He went to Canada in 1785 with 10 children and was allowed 550 acres of land by the king of England (called Crown Grants). Stamford is a township in Welland County,Ontario, Canada just across the line by Niagara Falls. Was baptized 0n May 4, 1737. Removed with fathers family in Sullivan County New York. He went through our revolutionary war period of our American History and sided with the British. He married there in Sullivan County New York. He had ten children. He was arrested and placed in Jail in Goshen New York for furnishing fodder for the British Horses. After the war was over in 1783 all the colonists that had sided with the British had to leave the Country, and to Canada they Went. He settled in Stamford, Ontario Canada 30 miles north of Niagara Falls, New York. He lived the rest of his life in Stamford. Baptism: May 07, 1731, North Preston Church CT, Now known as Griswald First Congregational Church. Occupation: 1793, Was the ASSESSOR for Stamford Twp, Welland County, Ontario, Canada

He took sides with King George III and was known as a Tory along with some of his brothers while some of his brothers fought for the Colonists. After the war was over in 1783 all the Tories were compelled to move out of the country and Benjamin Skinner settled in Ontario just north of Niagara Falls, NY.
