Descendants of Richard Alexander Skinner of Loudoun County, Virginia. Page 44: In census of 1830 they were living in Cameron Parish of Loudoun Co., Va., migrated to Ohio 1835 to 1838. In 1850, they resided at St. Louis, Mo. and by 1875 they were again in Perry Co. O. on a 200 a., farm on which he built a large frame house, later known as the Mary Skinner Place, on the road from Corning to Portersville, a few hundred yards east of the B&O tunnel, between Sayre and San Toy. Amos Skinner was a strong Unionist during the troubled days of the Civil War. He was 59 yrs. of age when the war began. During the war, he was visited by an angry mob, and his life threatened since it was believed that he was a southern sympathizer. He is said to have talked to the mob, saying ÒI am here; take me if you wish. They emigrated to Ohio between 1835 and 1838. By 1875 and in 1887, Amos was again living in Porterville, OH. Note: Fernald's Notes: One of Amos' sons resided in Southern Kansas in 1887, adjoining Indian Territory. Another son lived at Spring Hill, KS. Contemporary Records: Amos Skinner - farmer - Bearfielda twp, Portersville, P.O. Father of French and Mother of English descent. Emigrated to Ohio about 1835 and settled in Madison twp this county, lived there a little over a year and resided one year in Clayton twp before he moved to the farm where he now lives.
