He moved with his family to the Colonies from Malden, Essex County, England (N.B. This information has not been proven). They moved from Malden, Mass., to Colchester, Conn., about 1700, where Thomas was one of the original proprietors of Colchester. His sons, Abraham and John had already moved to Taunton, Mass., and with the parents went Richard, Benjamin, Ebenezer, Nathaniel and Abigail.

Thomas Skinner held various town offices and served on important committees during his residence in Colchester. He and his son Benjamin were granted lots on Jan. 21, 1702; in May 1702 he drew his house lot. Apparently the diary of this Thomas Skinner has been preserved, it gives many interesting details of family history; a digitized copy is in the custody of the Skinner Family Association. (John Terry)

THOMAS SKINNER (I), son of Thomas and Mary Skinner, was born in Subdeanery parish, Chichester, England, July 25, 1645, and came with his parents to New England before 1652. He married, about 1665, Mary, daughter of Richard and Mary Pratt of Malden, County Essex, England, and later of Charlestown, Massachusetts. (See note.) She was born September 30, 1643, and died in Colchester, Connecticut, March 26, 1704. Thomas Skinner removed with his wife and sons, Richard, Benjamin, Ebenezer, Nathaniel, and daughter, Abigail, to Colchester, Connecticut, where his sons were granted house lots, January 21, 1702, and he drew a house lot in May of that year. He was an original proprietor and one of the deacons in the first church there. The name of Deacon Thomas Skinner and that of his son Ebenezer, frequently appeared in the early town records, showing that he held various offices and served on important committees. The diary of his son, Thomas, Jr., has been preserved and gives many interesting details of family history. He deeded land to his sons in his lifetime and left no will, and his estate was not settled in probate, so this method of obtaining the date of his death is not available. The children of Deacon Thomas and Mary (Pratt) Skinner, born in Malden, Massachusetts, were:
