Seeking the ancestors of John Skinner m. 26 Mar 1736 Elizabeth/Hannah Cutter at Woodbridge, NJ.

IN QUEST OF THE QUIET ADVENTURES

I have recently received a flyer from an M. Turk, advertising the book "The Quiet Adventurers in North America." Supposedly, there are Skinners listed from page 593-600. I have never heard of, nor seen, this book. Has anyone out there seen it, or can anyone locate it in one of your local libraries? I hate to spend $18 on the book, but I would like to have the information in it for the computer file. Of course, $18 is a lot to spend for information that we may already have. Can anyone out there shed some light on this?

Thanks. Gregg.

REECE/SKINNER

Need information on parents of William A. Skinner, born 1806, Lancaster Co. South Carolina. Married Hannah Reece - 16 May 1827, Madison Co. IL. Believe his father also named William, born circa 1773, probably came to IL about 1810.

re: John Skinner(6) (ID=11251)

As far as we are concerned, we are satisfied that the John Skinner baptised 27 July 1783 and probably married Hulda Treadwell at Williamstown, MA and died in Bakersfield, VT is the same John Skinner who according to land records came from Williamstown, MA in 1806 and bought land in Bakersfield, VT.

According to the death notice for his son, Van Rensalier, in the Vermont Vital Statistics which said he died in Bakersfield in May 1908 age 91 yrs. 7 mo. 1 wk. He was listed as a farmer - Mother Hulda Treadwell born USA. Father John Skinner born CT.

Hulda told her grandchildren she was married at 16 and had 16 children.

She was listed in the 1850 Vermont Census Vol. 5 Franklin Co. as being 60 yrs. old born in VT.

That would have made her 16 yrs. old in 1806 when John bought land in Bakersfield, VT.

According to the 1840 census, John was listed as between 50 & 60 yrs. of age as well as his wife. We know that she would have been 50 yrs. old then. We figured he could have been 10 yrs. older than his wife.

Having been baptised 27 July 1783 made him 7 yrs. older than Hulda so he is in the right age bracket.

There were other John Skinners in Vermont but not in Bakersfield except the son John and later a grandson.
