Notes
SKU 10(2):24 I have a part of a SKINNER article which appears on
p 141, but I do not know from which book it came: Nathaniel died in
1801, and is buried at the Jersey Church Cemetery. He supposedly had a
large family: Samuel, Nathaniel Jr., James, Robert, Reuben, and several
daughters.
James and two other Skinners served in the Revolutionary War and were
given tracts of land by the government for the service rendered. James
took a plot of land known as the James B. Leonard Tract (now Stroyer
place). The other two Skinners, possibly Samuel was one, and his
brother, took up plots or tracts of land lying north of the Kooser farm in
the area of Kern, Johnson, Critchfield, and running into Mud Pike.

NJ. .04: Ruth Sinderson papers: James left Chester, Morris, NJ for NY in
1805. He was Rev. War soldier and served in the NJ Militia from Morris
co, NJ. He was in the Battle of Spankton (Raway, NY) 5 Jan 1777 where,
according to tradition, he lost his leg. He married Rachel Lanning who
may have been a daughter of Joseph Lanning, an early settler in
Turkeyfoot twp, Somerset co, PA. Additional info from Gerry Hardway.
James marreid second, Mary ?, a widow born 1776 and died 24 Sep 1845,
with burial in Ulysses, NY. She was of Enfield, Tompkins co, NY at the
time of her marriage to James Skinner.
A notice to the heirs of James Skinner was published in the Albany
Evening Journal for 6 weeks, beginning August 18, 1841.
