He was the keeper at Marshall Point light house, Port Clyde, ME for 43
years and holds the record for service in one place. There is a museum
at the light house now with letters, pictures, and other items of family
interest. This site was featured in the movie "The World According To
Garp." For people traveling in Maine who have a Skinner interest, it
would be a "Must See".
Charles Clement Skinner, a Civil War veteran, was the keeper at
Marshall
Point Lighthouse
from 1874 to 1919. He lived at the station with his wife and six
children. His daughter, Eula Kelley, was born in the first keeper's house
in 1891 and lived until 1993, spending her last years in a cottage nearby
the light station. Her sister, Marion Dalrymple, was born in the new
keeper's house in 1895 and lived until 1992. Both sisters attended the
opening of the restored keeper's house in 1990.
