JONATHAN SKINNER
(continued from vol 1 # 2)
The Skinner Ancestry, wherein somewhere our Jonathan belongs, is:
Sergeant Thomas (1) Skinner, I, the Emigrant. Born in England In 1617; embarked from Chichester between 1649 and 1651 for the New World. He married first, in England, Mary -, she died April 9, 1671. She was the mother of his three children. He married second, about 1680, Lydia, the daughter of Daniel and Joanna Shepardson, of Malden, MA and the widow of Thomas Call. On May 18, 1653, Sergt. Skinner took the Freeman's Oath at Malden. He died March 2, 1703/4. His undated will was acknowledged Feb 2, 1693/4 and recorded December 9, 1696.
His children were:
Thomas (2) Skinner, baptized Subchancerie Parish, Chichester, England July 15, 1645. Emigrated with his parents be tween 1649/1651.
John Skinner, baptized North Mundham, England, April 19, 1647. D.S.P.?
Abraham Skinner, baptized Pallant Parish, Chichester, Eng land, Sep 9, 1696.
Deacon Thomas (2) Skinner, II. See above. He was an Original Proprietor, Colchester, about 1700. He married Mary, daughter of Richard and Mary Pratt, of Charlestown, MA. She was born Sept 9 (30), 1645 and died March 26, 1704.
Note: In the Pratt Family is the name Charity.
Note: It must be remembered that the families of the Skinners who removed to New York are not yet fully worked out.
Issue of Deacon Thomas Skinner, II and his wife Mary Pratt: Ten in number. The sons were:

Ebenezer (3) Skinner, born February or April 23, 1684, died in 1755. He married Sarah Lord, daughter of William and Sarah (Sholer) Lord. They removed to Colchester, CT.
Among their children were the following sons:
Ebenezer (4), Aug 8, 1703
Joseph, Jan 17, 1707/8
Gideon, born at Colchester, CT, Oct 19, 1712
Timothy, July 10, 1721
Note: Here follows the line of the Rev. Levi Skinner.
Gideon (4) married Dorcas, daughter of Josiah Strong of Windsor, VT. Their son,
Gideon (5) b CT Feb 12, 1738/9. m 1st, at Amenia, NY, Nov 1, 1764, Sarah Barber
He is supposed to have had a brother, Jonathan Skinner. (Ours). Not proved.
Deac. Nathaniel (3) Skinner, also a son of Thomas (2) and brother of the above Ebenezer (3), born Jan 27, 1686 Malden, MA; married Mary, daughter of Josiah Gillett, June 13, 1706. Removed to Sharon, CT. Mary died Oct 1, 1740 at Colchester and he married 2nd, Mrs. Content (Fuller) Fuller.
Note: In the line of Deacon Nathaniel Skinner were several Jonathans. None, of course, of the birth date vital to us; but showing the usage of the line of that name.
Until the Families in the line of Thomas Skinner I are cleared up, their family records found - and one including a Jonathan, born 1759, this record must rest unfinished.
