!Iım researching John Skinner, who settled in Bakersfield, Vermont. He appears in the Skinner Kinsmen, the son of John Skinner and Eunice Northam of Colchester, Conn. The John who settled in Bakersfield married Huldah Treadwell, probably in Williamstown, Mass. and moved to Bakersfield in about 1806, when he purchased 100 acres of land, later known as ³Skinner Hill². The Skinner Kinsmen does not list any of John and Huldahıs children. I have an ancestor by the name of John Richard Skinner, whose obit indicates that he was born in 1808 in Bakersfield. Iıve checked the U.S. Census information, and there was only one Skinner family living in Bakersfield in 1810--John Skinner. The census indicates that there was one male child under ten years of age. I also have a deed dated 1829 between John Skinner and John Richard Skinner; the first John sold 55 acres to John Richard for $500. Iıd like to be able to somehow prove or disprove that John Richard was the elder Johnıs son. Iıve confirmed a number of other children for John and Huldah: Renesselar, Charles, Amanda, Charlotte, and Arvilla. Another of them might have been named Milton. Do you have any updated information that might help me with this research? I thought that perhaps you might have heard from someone also researching this, or better yet, someone who might have had access to John Skinnerıs family Bible, which may be the only source. Iıve already checked the vital records of Vermont, microfilm of the Bakersfield town records, with no record of John Richardıs birth. Iıve also checked genealogies for collateral lines for John Richardıs wife, with no luck. One of the obits for the children confirmed states that she was born in East Fairfield, New York. I know the borders were changing them. Perhaps the records of the births wee recorded in New York? Iıve also already checked with the Vermont Historical Society with no luck.
